Usability improvements in the newest version

Our recent field tests showed that in order to improve the operability and the user experience certain usability improvements were necessary to be done. In this article we compare the version 1.0.0 which has been submitted to ADC2 to the version 1.0.1, available now for free at the Android Market.

1. More prominent "In Court" button

Then Now

If the ball was served in court, you don't have to look for the "In Court" button with your eyes any more. Just hold your thumb over the bottom area of the screen and be ready to push it if the ball is in play without having to be distracted from watching the game!

2. Net/baseline buttons are put to the top of the screen

Then Now

If the ball is played on the net, before entering the point result you firstly have to set the players Net/Baseline positions. Therefore in the previous version you had to move the thumb first down and then up. The actual layout makes it much more natural: first you say where the players are, and finally enter the point result. In addition to that a nice graphical indicator shows you the players positions.

3. The user is notified about the un-/redone point with a toast message

Imagine the following scenario: the player serves the 1st service in court, then there comes a huge breathtaking rally and then you occasionally make a mistake while entering the point result. No problem, we do have an undo function! So, you undo the point and then realize that you have no idea whether it was the 1st or the 2nd service in the very beginning! It would be so much pity to have inaccurate statistics... Well, with the new toast message you will be notified what you have just undone. It works with redo as well.

4. Tie-break score is displayed in the scoreboard

5. The game score indicator is animated

Due to this simple animation you have a chance to see which part of the score has been changed as a result of a point.
